The Schoolhouse Ponds Project brings parents, teachers and students in grades 4, 5 and 6 together in a wet laboratory at the school in order to do a more systematic monitoring of the ponds and streams surrounding the Schoolhouse.
The major first goal will be a “bio-map” of school property: plants, bugs, trees, birds, reptiles, things in the ponds and correlation with date and weather. Depending on the outcome of what we find, there is a possibility for presenting our data at an upcoming Vermont Streams conference in the Spring. We will also be collecting and preserving representative samples of insects, leaves, and flowers, take pictures and prepare color prints, and assembling a Schoolhouse field guide.
We will record our data and results here on the web site.
This project is made possible in part because of a grant from the Vermont EPSCoR Streams Project.
